Montblanc

Montblanc International (UK: /ˌmɒ̃ˈblɒ̃(k)/, US: /ˌmɑnˈblɑŋk/) is a German manufacturing company of luxury goods, based in Hamburg.

Montblanc produces a wide range of products, including goods for travel, writing implements, watches and jewellery, among other products.

A Hamburg banker, Alfred Nehemias, and a Berlin engineer, August Eberstein, produced simple pens in 1906. After a short period of time Wilhelm Dziambor, Christian Lausen, and later Claus Johannes Voss took over the business. Their first model was the Rouge et Noir in 1909 followed in 1910 by the pen that was later to give the company its new name, Montblanc. The Meisterstück name (English: "Masterpiece", the name used for export) was used for the first time in 1924. Today, the Montblanc brand is on other goods besides pens, including watches, jewellery, fragrances, leather goods, and eyewear.

The Montblanc 1858 product line is inspired by the legendary professional Minerva watches from the 1920s and 1930s which were conceived for military use and exploration. Reinterpreting these legendary timepieces, the Montblanc 1858 product line expresses the spirit of mountain exploration, embodying the modern trend of returning to nature. The 1858 Chronograph Limited Edition 1858 comes in a 42 mm full bronze case with khaki-green dial, providing an ideal backdrop for the bi-compax counters. The case back is also engraved with the emblematic Mont Blanc mountain, a compass and two crossed ice pick-axes, as a nod to the spirit of mountain exploration. For legibility and design, the khaki-green dial contrasts with historical luminescent cathedral-shaped hands with a “cloisonné” design that have been slightly domed for one of the finest finishes. Other details include beige SuperLumiNova*-coated Arabic numerals, a railway minutes track and the original Montblanc logo from the 1930s era with its historical font and emblem of the Mont Blanc mountain. Providing a contemporary look, the timepiece is equipped with a high-quality woven khaki-green “NATO” strap matching the dial's colour.

On the dial, the world’s seven summits are marked with red dots on two turning globes and are also engraved on the case back. The timepiece features a new manufacture world-time complication developed by the Montblanc watchmakers in Villeret: two domed globes, turning in opposite directions, that complete a full rotation in 24 hours. Both are surrounded by a scale with the 24 time zones, along with a day and night indication in contrasting colours. This provides an instinctive way of appreciating the different time zones, aided by SuperLumiNova® applied to the continents for increased visibility and performance at night.

The first-ever sports diving watch for Montblanc, the Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date features a glacier pattern dial that gives the impression of looking into the depths of a glacier. This blue glacial pattern dial is inspired by the Mer de Glace - Sea of Ice - the main glacier of the Mont-Blanc Massif. Its texture was achieved using an almost-forgotten ancestral technique called gratté-boisé. The timepiece comes with a unidirectional bi-colour ceramic bezel, an engraved case back, and an interchangeable blue rubber strap with fine adjustment system. The timepiece conforms to the ISO 6425 norm for diving watches and is water-resistant to 300 metres.
